Our Brand Story

We are so happy you’ve found your way to Heart Mercantile, our fun and unique boutique located in the Historic Oregon District of Dayton, Ohio. Our shop offers a wide variety of gifts, handmade goods and one-of-a-kind items that are made both locally and abroad.

Officially opening doors in October of 2015, Heart actually started earlier, with a dream. A literal dream. Brittany, our gal who started it all, awoke one morning and the only bits of this dream she could remember were owning a store with her friends, and that an anatomical heart adorned the front door.

Loaded with personal sentiment and history, the anatomical heart was often on Brittany’s mind in those days. Her son, Mason, had been born with congenital heart defects, discovered when he was just one week old. An emergency surgery at Children’s saved his life and numerous following surgeries stabilized him. He continues to be monitored and the anatomical heart continues to hold meaning in Brittany’s life. She made her dream a reality and now owns Heart Mercantile with her friends, Carly and Kait. 

The heart, a symbol for love, not only symbolizes the love we have for our children, but also the love we have for our Dayton community. Dayton has an incredible amount of talent and is the birthplace of so many inventions (the airplane, cash register, and more). With so much history, diversity, and grit, this city offers us so much and all we want is to give back when we can.
